scottschiller asked:
These fish were like dogs, seemingly smart and quite entertaining. When I walked up to the tank, they would swim up front and they saw my hand, they knew what was up: FOOD! This was in 2004/2005 – I don’t have these fish, nor the tank any longer; a friend inherited them from me. The larger Dempsey died some time by 2006.

My jack dempsey is phsyco! He will eat anything that’s in “his” tank. If he can’t eat it he will rip it in pieces..my dempsey was so intelligent, every time it was feeding time he would jump out of the water and snatch the pellet’s out of my fingers! Now he is 5 inches you can see him on my page…Sad that he hates every TYPE of fish in the world, last time he was kept with other fish was when he was a fry..until he got an inch, he nearly killed all his brothers and sisters!

yeah dont feed him for a week or two!!!

i’ve got a jack dempsey and a tiger barb and a guppy, 300 litre tank, i would of thought my jack dempsey 12″ inches would eat the guppy and the tiger barb as they tiny compared to it, but it hasnt even touched them, i feed it worms and larve, anyone got any ideas on how to get it eating other fish lol??

That depends. One jack dempsey on its own will require aboutt 50 gallons of territory space at the leasst. So if you have about 100 gallons of water, it should work well enough. Some are aggressive and some are not, so you must be careful when you put two of the same types of fish together. Watch both of them for a few hours and for a few days to see whether they fight or not. If they do fight, you should take out the fish thats being beaten to a pulp and put it in another tank.

Its is a ID Shark. Yss they are a form of catfish. I made the mistake in getting 2 of these fish they really shouldn’t be housed in aquaria due to the fact they grow to 4ft or 36″
