I’d have to say you’re likely right on that. I recieved some imported rams and they have the nice bright blue iridescence, but the red and yellow underlying color is pale compared to domestic strains. On the plus side, the wild ones seem to have a more robust, full body!

yep, i was just going to say that.
you got ripped off, thoose are not wild rams.
nice colors anyways though.

The other day a ram cichlid couple I have laid about 400 eggs. Only 4-5 eggs died. The rest hatched today.

Hehe these are not wild. Wild Rams have very limited colour compared to their Colour bred cousins. which you have. Wild rams only have the iridescent Blue in half their body and no other colour is shown. maybe a pale yellow in the front half tops when spawning.

Beautiful fish, and a very nice video of their spawning. Thanks. I haven’t seen Rams spawn since I kept a pair back in the ’70s. The colors are wonderful.

Hi Iversunfan, beautiful rams you have!!! I am very interested in getting a pair of these and plan to keep them in my 20 gallon with 4 leopard danios. My question is what measures do you take to provide them with soft, slightly acidic water, since I have read that is what they prefer? Any info would be appreciated!!
OK thats alot iversunfan. You helped me so so so much!!!

I HAVE TO SAY THATS KIND OF TORTURING HIM/HER IF YOU DO. A FIVE GALLON JUST IS NOT BIG ENOUGH FOR A RAM OR ALMOST Any TROPICal Fish. BUT FOR THE RAM IT WOULD NOT BE GOOD A MINIMUM OF 10 GALLONS IS REQUIRED FOR THEse BEAUTIES. LOOK INTO A BIGGER TANK!!
Well, i wasn’t planning on breeding hem but could i keep one ram alone in a 5?
DO NOT keep two reams in a five gallon! a 10 gallon tank is needed to breed two rams a five gallon is just not big enough.
can i keep 2 rams in a 5 gallon? I have heard reeders breeding them is 5 gllns, so???
