yes they are very good parents, mostly the mother hangs right around them and moves them around like a ball of baby cichlids, the father patrols.. they have been even known to beat up oscars. even though they are not even hard to breed, they are still a very interesting species. very hardy too, some have been found living and breeding near hot springs in the northwest of usa

No, the parents wont eat them, but they might transport lost fry in their mouths, back to the group !
Other convicts will eat some of them though…unless you feed them extra in the “spawning period”

females have a tinge of red, orange, yellow or green ont their bellies and fins. Males don’t. Also females are generally smaller with shorter fins and rounded bellies
