Brandons right...... the 1inch per fish doesn't apply to cichlids. If you're putting africans together there's a couple ways to go. If you want babies, you're going to want to try to get 1 male and maybe 3-4 females... or if you just want lots of different kinds you'll want to slightly overcrowd them in order to disperse aggression. I had africans in a 75 and only had 8 or so and there was LOTS of aggression... until I added another 6 or 7 and then it was a lot happier in there. Just make sure you keep up on water changes due to a higher bioload. Goodluck!

The 1" - 1g rule DOES NOT APPLY TO AFRICAN CICHLIDS OR SCHOOLING FISH! Sorry, but i've heard that many times. The persom who said 20 is pretty close, but I'd probably go with 16-18.

1 inch of fish per gallon of water depending on the type of fish. You would want to give your fish a little more room than that. That is crowded. Some of the more expensive fish need up to 10gallons per inch. Do some research and see what the requirements are for those specific types of fish. I would say probably not more than 15 fully grown fish in a 75 gallon.
